Hold This Heart (Poem)

Hold This Heart

Hold this heart

You know how to hide

Both a soldier and medic

A castle and oasis

The pieces are scattered

Sprawling in the ground

I look and don’t find

I listen and hear nothing

Was it something I uttered?

A doubt amidst the deep?

Heavy are my fears

Heavier my shame

Where have You gone?

Why have You hidden?

Yet Your name precedes you

Your love remains steadfast

You listen to those You love

Your heart hurts with mine

Your wrath is mighty

Your justice is swift

You will answer my call

For you do as you say

Always drawing to the broken

Always giving mercy to the humble

I have nothing to offer

I lie empty before You

My Lord, my God, my friend

My heart wants only You

For before I was, you were

I AM created who I am

What can my enemies do to me?

Wherever I go, Yahweh is with me

Hold this heart as You have from the start

Guard this mind as dark thoughts creep

Keep me safe as I heal

Keep me guarded as I rest

Of this I pray

Of this I plead

Hold this heart

Make flesh what was stone

Hold this heart

Give hope where there was despair

Hold this heart

Whisper mercy to my soul

Hold this heart

Love me even when I can’t love you

Hold this heart

Hold this heart

Hold my heart
